more-inThe Madras High Court has ordered notice to the State government on a petition seeking a direction to negotiate with the Andhra Pradesh government to secure Krishna river water for Tamil Nadu. Suryaprakasam sought a direction to the government to send a high-level delegation to negotiate with the AP government to secure at least 5 tmcft of water for Chennai city. Thambidurai took notice on behalf of the State government and its agencies. Though the city is supposed to receive Krishna water according to an agreement reached between the two States, the required quantum has not reached the zero point due to a poorly maintained channel and illegal drawal of water by many people en route. With water level comfortable in Srisailam dam, Andhra Pradesh could be persuaded to release water, he said.
