On Monday early morning it was a shock wave for all Sri Lankans including the Sri Lankan Diaspora scattered around the world. Uswatta Liyanage Ivor Sylvester Sunil Perera popularly known as ‘Sunil Aiya’ was the frontman of the band the ‘Gypsies’, vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and composer. Sunil was the live wire of the band Gypsies since its inception in 1970. Sunil Aiya had many top hits to his name that cemented his position in Sri Lankan popular culture.
