Gusty Sunday could fan flames of High Level wildfire

EDMONTON—Gusting winds on Sunday could mean trouble for firefighters who continue to battle the out-of-control wildfire near High Level. It remains roughly three kilometres southwest of High Level itself. While the blaze’s main spread is away from town, officials warned Sunday’s forecast could fan the flames. “This ... may challenge established containment lines in and around the community.” Environment Canada is calling for a daytime high of 26 C for High Level with widespread wildfire smoke. Around 5,000 people in High Level and surrounding communities were evacuated last Monday and still haven’t returned.
