By RICK GREEN, LACONIA DAILY SUNGILFORD — As promised, the Gunstock ski area opened Friday for its 80th anniversary ski season. Three lifts and 13 trails were open in 40 degree weather. All told, the area has 54 trails and seven lifts. Open Friday were the Penny Pitou Silver Medal Quad, the Pistol Triple and the Ramrod Quad. The area has not received much snowfall yet this season, but snowmaking machines have been used as much as possible, including upgraded, energy-efficient units intended to save operational costs for the county-owned ski area.
