AHMEDABAD: Of the 4.32 crore voters in the state, 68.41% exercised their franchise in two phases in the high-stakes 2017 assembly polls. The first phase of polling in Saurashtra and South Gujarat recorded 66.75% voting while the second phase recorded 69.98%.The overall voting percentage had registered a drop of 3.61% in comparison to the 2012 voting percentage. In 2012, the voting percentage was 72.02%. Voting in the remaining 14 districts had been less than the state's average of 68.41% voting.The data reveals that voting percentage in Saurashtra region was the lowest while North Gujarat experienced the highest voting. In 2012, the difference in the voting percentage among men and women was 3.48%.Political parties, however, had their own explanation for the fall in voting percentage.
