Gujarat government today announced General Development Control Regulations (GDCR), a common set of rules for construction in urban areas across the state. However, these common rules will not apply to Gandhinagar, the capital city. Currently, seven municipal corporations and 157 municipalities have their own development control rules. "The decision will facilitate planned development in the entire state," deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said while announcing the decision. "With common GDCR, the process of giving clearance for new constructions will become easier," Patel said.
