Gujarat High Court directed the medical officer of the civil hospital in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to examine a rape survivor, who has sought its permission for termination of her 22-week pregnancy. Under section 5 of Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, abortion is allowed after 20 weeks only if there is a grave danger to the life of the mother. Under the law, pregnancy can not be terminated after 20 weeks. The court will pass an order based on the medical report on Thursday, the judge said. Justice Sonia Gokani ordered the medical officer of the VS Hospital on Tuesday to examine the woman and submit a report by Wednesday or Thursday.
