Eritrean Canadian students at Guelph’s Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School have started a letter-writing campaign aimed at getting the Canadian government to advocate for Eritrean refugees in Ethiopia. The letter describes the situation in Tigray, Ethiopia, where political dispute has led to armed conflict with a devastating impact on Eritrean refugees, who fled there to escape human rights abuses in their homeland. “We have many Eritrean Canadian students in our school,” Nolan said in a news release. Many students have personal knowledge of the harsh realities of forced migration and express profound gratitude for the freedoms they now enjoy in Canada.”The campaign has provided a platform for students to educate friends, family and the wider community about the ongoing situation for Eritrean refugees in Ethiopia.
