The barrier has been installed (as they usually seem to be) to stop vehicles that are driving too fast from going into the adjacent ravine. David S. Crawford, TorontoThe photo accompanying your article on this tragedy is a perfect illustration of what’s wrong with Toronto City Council’s “zero vision” approach to Vision Zero — the goal of eliminating all deaths of vulnerable road users. Only to stop out-of-control vehicles from going over the bank and into Highland Creek — human beings on the sidewalk be damned. A similar situation exists on St. Clair Avenue West at Nordheimer ravine, and doubtless many other places in the city. What would it cost to move these guardrails to the curb side of the sidewalks, thus protecting human beings instead of vehicles?
