It welcomed the creation of a Māori Health Authority which it hoped would “deliver significant improvements in Māori health outcomes”. Already seeking these in the Taumarunui and wider area is Taumarunui Community Kokiri Trust, a major community health provider. “I would like to see Taumarunui Hospital back to providing the original services it did 30 years ago. Christel Yardley/Stuff Taumarunui Community Kokiri Trust CEO Christine Brears has helped with emergency housing in Taumarunui to help build new homes that are dry and warm.
