Previous plans to bring back the extension workers to the DA fold did not push through. Growth enhanced with extension workers back to DATacloban City — The new head of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VIII (DA RFO-8) based here is confident agricultural productivity in Eastern Visayas will be enhanced with the plan of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol to bring back to DA’s supervision all agricultural extension workers (AEWs) who were devolved to local government units. The extension workers, once detailed at DA and empowered with travel incentives, will be the focal persons who will monitor the progress of agriculture projects in their localities. He said that with the AEWs under DA RFO 8 supervision, the implementation of agricultural programs and projects will be improved. Piñol detailed the workers back to DA after learning that they confined themselves in the office when they are supposed to be in the field.
