Tomas (UST) pulled off a 76-74 upset over Far Eastern University (FEU), its first win in Season 81 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s basketball on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Transfer guard Ken Zamora and rookie big man Germy Mahinay scored the crucial baskets down the stretch as the Growling Tigers roared to their breakthrough victory after a season-opening loss. The usually stoic head coach Aldin Ayo was reduced to tears after his retooled team notched its maiden triumph. “They (UST community) deserve this (win) because their support is overwhelming. Nigerian center Orizu’s 25-point, 15-rebound effort went to waste along with guard Cani’s 15 points and forward Escoto’s 13 markers as FEU skidded to 1-1.
