Kenyans could soon start importing firewood if they don’t start growing enough trees. Tree Biotechnology Programme Trust CEO Benson Kanyi warned there could be lack of trees for firewood in the next decade. His warning is a result of the depletion of trees and the government’s concentration on growing trees for industrial use. “We seriously need to start growing trees or else I don’t know what we shall do,” Kanyi said on Saturday. Kanyi stressed the need for extended research beyond fast-growing eucalyptus and pine trees which are used to manufacture of pulp and paper.
