Group seeks govt support for prostate cancer patients

The founder, Prostate Cancer Transatlantic Consortium (CaPTC), Prof. Ademola Popoola, has urged the Nigerian government to support men with prostate cancer in view of the high cost of care which is out of reach of many patients. Popoola, a professor of urological surgery, lamented that “prostate cancer is increasing among Nigerian men and it is a major cause of death among them”. Prostate cancer is the commonest cancer among Nigerian men. “Unfortunately, some of the prostate cancer cases present late in facilities, partly due to inadequate level of awareness or due to misdiagnosis in the early stages. It is my hope that before the expiration of the project, the story of prostate cancer survivors will change for the better”.
