Group seeks FG’s intervention to halt Jalingo killings

Femi MakindeThe Jukun Development Association of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to intervene in the ongoing killings in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, in order to prevent the situation from escalating. The group said at least, eight people had been killed since Monday when Governor Darius Ishaku was declared the winner of the governorship election in the state. He said some youths from neighbouring states teamed up with their collaborators in Taraba State and unleashed terror on Christians, saying the state government seemed overwhelmed by the situation. The group however hailed the governor for imposing a curfew on the town but lamented that the attackers resumed killings immediately the dusk to dawn curfew was lifted. Confessional statements of some of the perpetrators of the violence arrested lay credence to the fact that the violence unleashed on the state capital was premeditated.
