To that extent, Emir of Gombe, Alh Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III has been called upon to support fast-tracking the domestication of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act in Gombe State. Dudu Manuga further stated that the domestication of the act in the state would help curtail the increasing cases of gender-based violence, adding that the report of gender-based violence for Gombe State in 2018 and 2019 was “frightening”. She disclosed that “In 2018, a Human Rights Commission report released in early 2019 had it that there were over 300 reported cases of domestic violence in Gombe State alone”. She further decried the poor rating of Gombe State in a recent assessment on sexual and gender-based violence, adding that “we are worst in Nigeria when it comes to sexual and gender-based violence issues and we must do something to curb the trend”. Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar III said that the alliance has his blessing and could visit anytime to advance the course of domesticating the act in the state.
