Group of 48 Indonesians held for illegal entry in Tawau - Nation

KOTA KINABALU: A group of Indonesians were nabbed after they were believed to have arrived in Sabah illegally via Tawau on Friday (May 17). Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the 48 Indonesians, comprising adults and children aged between one and 59, were inspected at about 9.30am at a known illegal landing point at Mile 8 in Tawau. "We received information about a group of immigrants who just arrived via Sungai Nyamuk, which is a known backdoor route for illegal immigrants," he said in a statement here Saturday (May 18). "Of the 48, our men found 46 of them were undocumented upon inspection," Hazani said. All the suspects have been taken to the temporary detention centre in Tawau and will be investigated under the Immigration Act.
