Ground investigations mark start of work on Levin expressway


The road is almost a decade away, but planning work has started on the Ōtaki to north of Levin expressway. The ground investigation has begun for the 24-kilometre, four-lane highway to be built to the east of Levin as a replacement for State Highway 1. David Unwin/Stuff The New Zealand Transport Agency’s Emma Speight explains the work happening near Levin. Transport Minister Phil Twyford visited the site and said the investigation work would give critical information for the design phase. Horowhenua mayor Bernie Wanden said all projects started with small steps and it was great to see work happening.
