The repair works of Naikkhyangchhari-Sonaichhari road in Bandarban has been plagued by gross corruption and irregularities. The Tk1 crore project of repairing the 5km-long Naikkhyangchhari-Sonaichhari road was first assigned to Milton Traders, a construction company owned by local contractor Milton Chakma. Rezaul Karim, assistant engineer of LGED’s Naikkhyangchhari office who is supervising the repair work, claimed that he had advised the contractor to maintain standard. However, Naikkhyangchhari Upazila Engineer Shahidul Islam claimed that the people had been questioning the quality of work due to their ignorance. “No low quality materials have been used during the repair works,” he added.
