Private-equity-backed supermarket chain Earth Fare Inc. filed for bankruptcy a day after saying it planned to close its roughly 50 stores. The North Carolina-based natural and organic goods merchant, which was once valued at $300 million and counts a former Sears executive among its investors, filed its chapter 11 petition Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del., listing liabilities of $100 million to $500 million.
