STX and AmazonThe Box Office:Gringo opens tonight in 2,404 theaters courtesy of STX Entertainment and Amazon Studios. The R-rated comic thriller was funded (regarding production costs and marketing spends) by Amazon, with STX handling domestic distribution and STX International is handling most overseas markets. Gringo is not a drug comedy, as to my recollection, no one ever even touches much in the way of illicit substances. Of course, I might say that for the entire cast, as this flick is an acting treat through-and-through. It has a great cast, a twisty plot and enough genuine laughs to compensate for the overwritten narrative.
