Grieving husband calls for Otago hospital to address surgeon shortage

Anna Milne, 39, died on June 5 with her husband, John, and children Holly, 14, and Sam, 11, by her side. She had been taken to Christchurch Hospital from Dunedin the day before because there was no neurosurgeon on duty at the Otago hospital. She was in tears, crouched on the floor at home holding her head," John Milne said. He took her to a medical centre in Balclutha and she was then taken to Dunedin Hospital by ambulance on Saturday night. Milne's father had inspired her to become an organ donor, as he had received a heart transplant in his 30s, John Milne said.
