Grenfell fraudster who swindled £88k meant for fire victims jailed for four years

Abdelkarim Rekaya, 28, faked being a victim of the west London tragedy in order to swindle thousands of pounds meant for survivors. But enquiries found his story was false and that he had never lived in the North Kensington tower, Get West London reported. Rekaya admitted fraud by false representation and obtaining leave to remain by deception at Isleworth Crown Court two months ago. Following the tragedy, Rekaya, from Tunisia, claimed he had been made homeless and was rehoused at an address in Lots Road. (Image: PA)As well as fraudulently claiming accommodation, Rekaya was also granted 12 months leave to remain in the UK in November last year, through the Grenfell Tower survivors policy.
