“Squid Game,” the highly acclaimed South Korean TV drama series, has been officially renewed by Netflix for a second season. The survival drama series that went instantly viral after its release in September 2021, continues to be the most-watched program on Netflix globally, having racked up 1.65 billion hours viewed in its first 28 days on the streaming website. “It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever,” Hwang said in a letter written to fans, released by Netflix Sunday. When the new season might be ready, though, still remains unclear as production is in very early stages, producer Kim Ji-yeon told Tudum, Netflix’s official “behind the streams” publication.
