Addis Ababa August 4/2022/ENA/ Ethiopia’s ongoing afforestation program is part of the global effort to tackle global warming, the former UN Environmental Program Deputy Director for Africa Professor Desta Mebratu said. As a result countries in the region will follow this peer learning besides enhancing collaboration and regional integration, he added. Therefore, facilitating this kind of regional cooperation will help the global movement in terms of addressing climate change. Ethiopia’s ongoing afforestation program is part of the global effort to tackle global warming as forestation program is still one of the major contributors in tackling global warming because as we increase our forest coverage our ability to reduce impact of climate change will be enhanced. The former UN Environmental Program deputy director recalled that the Green Legacy was proposed during the Nile Basin Initiative.
