Pettine returned to coaching with Green Bay this year, but could soon be back in the unemployment line. The Packers fired head coach Mike McCarthy on Dec. 2 and named offensive coordinator Joe Philbin as interim head coach. Green Bay is 2-1 under Philbin, but he’s a longshot — at best — to become the Packers’ next head coach. Philbin was an assistant coach in Green Bay from 2003-’11, Miami’s head coach from 2012-’15 and the assistant head coach/offensive line coach in Indianapolis in 2016-’17. Green Bay ranks 14th in total defense, 11th in passing defense and 22nd in scoring defense (24.6).
