Great Run Planned to Commemorate Ethiopian Renaissance Dam ProjectMarch 3, 2017 - Great run is planned to commemorate the 6th year anniversary of laying the foundation for the construction of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the 41st International Women’s Day is scheduled for Suday. Public Relation Directorate Director of GERD Public Participation and Mobilization National Council, Hailu Abraham, told WIC that the mass run is expected to participate more than 650 thousand people. More than 85 thousand people are expected to run in Addis alone and this run is scheduled to take place in all regional states and the two city administrations of the country. 12 towns in Tigray, 40 towns in Amhara, and 38 towns in Oromia are to officially host the run. The mass run is to be undertaken with the theme, “we have to run before time and save for our Renaissance dam.”The council is widely selling bonds in order to collect revenue for the construction of the dam since Feb. 27, 2017.
