Gravel consent grates Dipton CDAEnvironment Southland The area approved for gravel extraction is about 1km away from both the local school and main road of Dipton. Plans for a gravel extraction operation has blindsided Dipton's Community Development Area Subcommittee. A resource consent for gravel extraction, that would allow the extraction of up to 260,000 cubic metres of gravel from the Oreti River, near Dipton, was granted to Winton firm McGregor Concrete Ltd, on March 12. Four areas have been selected for gravel extraction, which would be via the pond excavation method on the banks of the river. Environment Southland, who approved the resource consent, have said any effects on the environment and wider community would be minimal.
