Vanderbilt Hall on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Graduate students from six academic departments at the university voted to unionize Thursday, part of a quickening pace of unionization votes at U.S. colleges. Duke University graduate students’ votes were being counted Friday, and graduate students at Pennsylvania State University filed this week to hold elections. But graduate students’ attempts to organize, centered at mainly private institutions, continue to face headwinds elsewhere.
