ANALYSIS: People in New Zealand and across the world have reacted with anger following the alleged murder of British backpacker Grace Millane. Some people are now questioning that notion, drawing on New Zealand's shameful record of male violence towards women and children. There's no doubt the country has a problem with violence, however, attacks on tourists by relative strangers are extremely rare. Sadly, family violence is not. But family violence is an endemic issue here.
