A rezoning plan for the Brooklyn neighborhood of Gowanus that permits additional development is drawing criticism from residents. Hundreds of residents crammed inside a school auditorium there recently, with many demanding city officials provide more investments in public housing before completing the plan. Others pushed back against permitting the construction of 20- and 30-story buildings, saying they would further alter the character of the community, which is home to art spaces, bars and manufacturing spaces.
