PUTRAJAYA: The government wants to tackle profiteering that occurs in the supply chain, which has led to the escalating prices of goods, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic). The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister said findings by his ministry revealed that profit margins of up to 133% can be made at one stage of the supply chain. Saifuddin acknowledged that while there are no laws stipulating profit margins that can be made, the government is still able to rely on the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act. Saifuddin said online scams come in a close second in the top complaints received at 20%. Saifuddin said other complaints received take up only a small portion of total complaints lodged by consumers, such as buying counterfeit goods.
