Govt. trains its guns on media coverage


Patil, MLA, during a heated debate on the media in the Legislative Assembly in Bengaluru on Wednesday. In another instance, two Kannada channels — ZEE Kannada and Star Suvarna — have been served notices for airing teleserials Anjali, Ganga and Neeli, respectively, and promoting superstitions. Earlier, in the Legislative Council, Tara (BJP) said that the electronic media, including cinemas and theatres, sensationalised trivial family disputes to increase viewership. “It is a business for TV channels to show such stories and indulge in yellow journalism so that their TRP is up,” he said. Ugrappa (Congress) alleged that TV channels choose certain politicians and target them indulging in their character assassination.
