Govt to send letter to UN on Sunday seeking investigation into Hadi killing case

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) – The interim government today reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensure justice for Sharif Osman Hadi killing, saying that it will formally send a letter to the relevant United Nations (UN) agency on Sunday, seeking an investigation into the Hadi killing case. “The government is deeply reviewing the legal aspects of conducting an investigation under the United Nations (UN) and will formally send a letter to the relevant UN agency on Sunday (February 8, 2026),” said a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing this evening. The government issued the statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the protest demanding justice for Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi killing and police action on the protesters in front of the State Guest House Jamuna here this afternoon. “Today, when protesters attempted to break through barricades and move towards the Jamuna and at one point climbed onto water cannons, law enforcement agencies used sound grenades and water cannons to bring the situation under control,” it said. “The government is clearly stating that law enforcement agencies did not fire any shots at this time,” the statement said, adding, the police dispersed the protesters in a lawful and procedural manner "without using any lethal weapon”.
