Additional Deputy Inspector General Sheikh Omar Faruque, who was in-charge of the CID’s Dhaka metropolitan north unit, had been supervising the recent cases filed against actor Pori Moni, models Piasha and Mou, and politician Helena Jahangir. Another officer, Mohammad Abdur Rahim who was serving as the commander (SP ranked) of the Armed Police Battalion-6 (APBN) in Khagrachhari’s Mahalchhari, has also been sent to retirement. Sheikh Omar Faruque, 58, joined the Bangladesh Police in 1991 as a Bangladesh Civil Service cadre of the 12th batch. The order came a day after the High Court criticized the lower courts for allowing police remand of actor Pori Moni multiple times, defying its directives in this regard.
