EDITORIAL: Some legal experts and political combatants are calling the Government’s latest rush of Covid lawmaking a constitutional disgrace. In the absence of a single, comprehensible, constitution we have a mish-mash of constitution-ish protections peppered throughout various laws. The latest indication would be the unedifying confusion over the need to scan vaccine passes with the official app. The Ministry of Health website stated flatly that having people just visually check the passes isn’t enough to allow entry. New Zealanders cannot be expected to just run a quick eye over important legislation with the same looks-about-right approach that Ardern and Hipkins seem to think will generally suffice for the vaccine passes.
