"I have instructed my ministry to examine the desirability of filing a review in this case. Appropriate actions are being taken," Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said at a news conference on Thursday. Several BJP allies like the Lok Janshakti Party, Rashtriya Lok Samata Party and the Republican Party of India have opposed the judgment. The arrears in post-matric scholarships for Dalit students now stands at Rs 6,900 crore. Activists estimate that several lakh Dalit students have been pushed out of higher education for lack of money in the past five years.
