Govt has very short memoryThe clash on Saturday night between police and a group of pro-democracy demonstrators which left more than a dozen injured again raises questions about the proportionate use of force by police officers. When the pro-democracy movement emerged in July, similar claims of disproportionate measures by the police triggered massive demonstrations. Gen Prayut should not be allowed to absolve himself of blame for the escalation of these demonstrations into near riots. Gen Prayut once said both the government and the pro-democracy movement should take one step back in order to avoid confrontation. What he is doing now is the opposite as a window of opportunity to foster national reconciliation closes.
