Govt approves launch of Rs 9,000cr national nutrition mission


NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of the National Nutrition Mission (NNM) to deliver a 'convergence model' to reduce the level of stunting, under-nutrition, anaemia and low birth weight babies in India. NNM as an apex body will monitor, supervise, fix targets and guide the nutrition-related interventions across the ministries.Mapping of various schemes contributing towards addressing malnutrition will be done along with ICT-based real time monitoring system. He pointed that GPS mapping will be done to identify target groups and Anganwadi centres. Mobile phones will be given to Anganwadi workers and tablets to supervisors. Online real-time reporting system right down to Anganwadi workers will be created.
