Govt approves 2,000 new buses on city roads

Delhiites can breathe a sigh of relief as the AAP government, after three long years, finally gave a go-ahead to the procurement of 2,000 buses on city roads. On Friday, the Delhi Cabinet approved a proposal to get 2,000 buses of which 1,000 will be for the low-floor state run Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) while the rest will be cluster buses run by the Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System (DIMTS). Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot tweeted the development, "Delhi Cabinet today approved a proposal to procure 2,000 buses, including 1,000 for the state-run DTC, to strengthen public transportation in the national capital. Tenders for the long-pending 1,000 DTC buses had been floated several times over the past two years with little result. The procurement of buses will also mean a revival of the DTC, which has not had a single new bus to its fleet since 2010.
