Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has warned surrounding companies and residential estates to stop polluting Athi River waters or face the consequences.In his statement to the press, Mutua said the poison in the contaminated waters poses a danger to people who depend on it. “Poison in River Athi is being ingested by people who depend on the river for water and irrigation,” he said adding that neighbouring companies and residential estates pour chemicals into the river every single day. The Governor directed individuals and companies contaminating the waters to adhere to ethical business practices and keep the environment clean or wait for stern action. Mutua also accused Nema officials of colluding with the notorious companies to ignore the wanton pollution which he said is dangerous for locals.
