and federal governments have announced funding for seven projects that will help restore wild salmon habitats in the province. According to a statement from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, both governments are working on many projects to address and reverse salmon stocks declines. Wild chinook salmon is a critical food source for the southern resident killer whales that frequent the south coast of B.C. The projects aim to help salmon get upstream to reach spawning grounds, provide new information about their habits and populations, and contribute to ongoing efforts to have healthy salmon populations in the Pacific. All applications will be reviewed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the provincial government.
