Government tourism cash for upgrading Mackenzie toilets


The Mackenzie District Council will receive $2,201,660:$813,480 to upgrade and enhance the toilet facility at Lake Pukaki. Mackenzie district mayor Graham Smith said he was pleased Mackenzie has been recognised with the tourism spending. ECan/Supplied Lake Ruataniwha will also benefit from tourism infrastructure funding, in recent years there has been high e.coli contamination at the lake. Mackenzie District Council general manager of operations Tim Harty highlighted the state of the district’s public toilets at a Fairlie Community Board meeting earlier this year. The Waimate District Council will also receive $186,600 to install new public toilets at Briar’s Gully and Waihao Box.
