The government is planning to set up a 500MW power plant at Dighipara in Nawabganj upazila, Dinajpur, said State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to inaugurate the construction work in early January next year, the state minister told reporters on Friday after inspecting the construction work of a 275MW thermal power station at Barapukuria in Phulbari upazila. He further assured that all power deficits in the northern region would be ameliorated by December next year. Dinajpur 6 lawmaker Shibly Sadiq was also present on the occasion. The government has a plan to set up a number of coal-fired power plants across the country by 2030.
