Government housing policy appears to be slowing rent increases - Trade Me

The rental market is starting to show signs of cooling, according to Trade Me’s latest rental price index. The median national median weekly rent remained unchanged for the second consecutive month in April, Trade Me Property sales director Gavin Lloyd said. In contrast to Auckland, the median weekly rent in the Wellington region increased by $5 to reach $595 in April. This put last month’s median weekly rent just $20 shy of the region’s all-time high of $615, recorded in January. Supplied Trade Me Property sales director Gavin Lloyd says the Government’s new housing policy appears to have taken some of the heat out of rent prices.
