Government holds back channel talks with Reds — OPAPP

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government is holding back channel negotiations with the communist rebels for the possible resumption of the peace talks, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said Tuesday. In July last year, plans to hold back channel talks with the communist insurgents were canceled following the NPA’s attack on a Presidential Security Group convoy in Arakan, Cotabato. This is despite formally terminating the peace talks in November last year and seeking to declare the CPP and its armed wing, the NPA, as terror bodies. Sison, however, said that he would only come home should there be substantial strides in the peace talks. READ: Joma to return home only if ‘significant’ advances in peace talks are attained
