Share TweetBy Genalyn KabilingThe government is looking into granting incentives for economic activities outside Metro Manila as part of a proposal to decongest the region. According to Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo, the Cabinet cluster on climate change adaptation has recommended the decongestion of Metro Manila while tackling earthquake preparedness efforts during the meeting with the President in Malacañang last Monday. “They also recommended decongestion of Metro Manila by reducing its population density and incentivizing the economic activities outside of the region,” Panelo said in a statement. The same Cabinet cluster led by Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu also endorsed a bill creating a new government department to lead disaster mitigation and response in times of calamities and other emergencies.
