The government has declared Friday, April 29, a national holiday in honour of former President Mwai Kibaki. Interior CS Fred Matiang'i said the National State Funeral Steering Committee tasked with planning the funeral of the former Head of State resolved that his funeral service will be held on this day at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi. "The State Funeral for the third President shall take place on Friday (April 29, 2022) at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi County with full Military Honours and Protocols," a statement read. "President Uhuru Kenyatta, accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta will lead the nation in publicly viewing the body at 10 am on Monday. His death was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday.
