With the evaders using innovative ways, the government has asked the GST Network, the company that processes GST returns, to hire fraud analytics providers to comb through tax data to detect evasion patterns. Union and state tax authorities are worried about tax evasion as GST revenue collections fell marginally for the second straight month in March to Rs85,174 crore, even as return filing compliance improved. The number of taxpayers who filed their returns under GST rose to an all-time high of 5.95 million in March.
