'Government border failures may mean precious lockdown gains could be reversed'

The number of daily cases is falling and fewer people are being admitted to hospital. But these precious gains could be reversed if we can’t stop new variants of the virus entering the country. Ministers have still to bring in a scheme that would force travellers from virus hot spots to quarantine in designated hotels on arrival. At the peak of the second wave the UK was reporting more cases and more deaths in a single day. But it is depressing that the football authorities, ministers and tech companies are still failing to live up to their responsibility.
